Route 460 Connector, Phase I
A VDOT design-build contract located in Buchanan County near Breaks, Virginia. Construction began spring 2011 and the project is anticipated to be completed summer 2015. The project is valued at approximately $113 million. The Route 460 Connector Phase I includes design and construction of Twin high-level bridges, 1700 linear feet in length, located over Conaway Road (Route 610) and Grassy Creek. When completed the over 250-foot-high bridges will be the tallest in Virginia.
The project also includes 0.8-mile four-lane divided highway (US Route 460) starting at the Kentucky State Line. An access ramp to Route 80, improving access to Breaks Interstate Park. This includes the construction of a bridge crossing Route 768. Secondary connections to Routes 609 and 693 from Route 80. 3BCS performs Quality Control and provides Stream Mitigation Oversight for the project.
Route 460 Connector, Phase II
The Corridor Q/U.S. Route 460 Connector Phase II is a 6.2-mile four-lane, limited access highway located between the U.S. Route 460 Connector Phase I, which is under construction near Breaks Interstate Park, Route 460 and a connection with the proposed Route 121 (Coalfields Expressway) in Buchanan County. The project is valued at $108 million for both the design and construction phases of work.
3BCS is the Lead Designer for project; providing overall design administration of services including Project Scheduling, Survey, Geotechnical Engineering, Mineral Reserve Studies, Permitting, Mitigation Design, Roadway Design, Right of Way , Utility Design and Coordination as well as Quality Assurance for each of the individual disciplines. The project is currently in the final design stages with construction expected to begin late this spring. 3BCS will also provide Quality Assurance during the construction phase of the project with completion expected late spring 2018.
This route is designated as part of Corridor Q by the Appalachian Regional Commission and part of the Appalachian Development Highway System
Corridor Q/Route 460 - Poplar Creek
This $10 million Preliminary Engineering project consists of approximately 4 miles of new four-lane highway, 3 challenging bridges across Route 614, Poplar Creek and Levisa Fork, and 32 million cubic yards of excavation. Once constructed the project will include the tallest bridge(s) and possibly the largest rock cut in Virginia.
3BCS is the Lead Designer for project; providing overall design administration of services including Project Scheduling, Survey, Geotechnical Engineering, Mineral Reserve Studies, Permitting, Mitigation Design, Roadway Design, Bridge Design, Right of Way , Utility Design and Coordination as well as Quality Assurance for each of the individual disciplines.
Preliminary Engineering completion is expected during the early fall of 2015 with final design beginning soon after. Construction is scheduled to begin early 2016. VDOT Bristol District-Wide CEI
3BCS is currently providing daily construction inspection and office engineering support on various projects under the VDOT Bristol District Wide CEI Contract with assignments including both short and long term projects with day, night and/or weekend schedules.
Staff responsibilities include monitoring contractor activities for compliance with contract documents, plans, and VDOT Standards and Specifications, daily documentation of project activities using SiteManager, estimate preparation, materials notebook management, materials testing and inspection.
